Carlos Miguel’s Mexican Bar & Grill Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The food had very little flavor. Out of a party of four not one single person came close to cleaning their plate and everyone seemed to have complaints about their food. I spoke with the manager about the quality of the food and he shrugged his shoulders told me that is just the way the food is.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I can always go for some tacos. I saw that a new place opened in Highlands Ranch called Carlos Miguel's. So, off I went today for lunch to try some new tacos. I walked in and didn't see anyone in sight. No one was at the hostess stand. I stood there for roughly 5 minutes before I started wandering into the left side room and a server saw me. She seated me and walked away. I sat for a minute before she walked back up with the menu and asked what I would like to drink. She brought my drink, but then walked away before taking my order. I sat for another 5 minutes before the bartender looked up and I gave her the 'I am ready to order' smile. She said something to the waitress who then turned and walked into the kitchen. I waited another 5 minutes before a manager walked up to me and took my order. I got two ground beef tacos with refried beans and rice. The same manager arrived with my food. It looked great. Great presentation. All I kept thinking was that their tacos should be better than their service. Nope, I was wrong. The beef was not seasoned at all and wasn't cooked enough. The taco had raw red onions on top that over powered any flavor that would have been within that shell. The only thing that tasted good on my plate was the refried beans with cheese melted on top. I am not a fan at all. Not only was their service not great, food being horrible, but their prices are pretty high as well. An appetizer of queso was ten dollars. A little extreme if you ask me. I don't recommend going to this place at all, unless maybe the bar has good drinks. ;)

Hands down, the most unusual and delicious Mexican food anywhere near. A new favorite. Clean and attractive. Great service.

My family and I have been coming to the one on Highlands Ranch Parkway for awhile. Why? Because they have delicious white cheese queso, because they have excellent chimichangas, and because they have the best sopapillas I have ever tasted in my life! And because the service is superb! Prices are good too! I would definitely put this on your "must go to" Mexican food place!

We at the new Carlos Miguel's a few weeks ago. We had a great experience! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and what we were used to from eating at the Carlos Miguel's on Kipling. We will definitely be heading back to the Highlands Ranch Carlos Miguel's!

We went for lunch and it was great! I'm from Texas and this is great tex-mex! I don't understand peoples reviews? Its a bar/restraunt with great chips and salsa and casual atmosphere! Eat here and make your own opinion, you'll love it!

Tasty meal. Service was good. Love the salsa--just spicy enough! Just as good as our visits to their other location! Highly recommend!

  • John R.

Salsa was an odd, smoky flavor with too many onions. It needed lots of salt just to be palatable. The chips tasted like they came from Costco (no offense to Costco but restaurant chips should be a bit special). The bean dip tasted like it came from a can (also very bland). Our Chimichanga Puerta Vallarta tasted extremely fishy so we sent it back. The small portion of queso we ordered was pretty good but got lumpy and hard very quickly. The decor is nice and the staff was friendly but that is about the only nice things I can say. I do give them props for making things right by taking the chimichanga off the bill when we sent it back.

Been here twice, just to make sure I want being critical without trying at least twice... Food was warm and just not good

Love this place! I grew up in Texas and this place rocks! We have not had a bad meal or bad service and we eat here at least once a month. I highly recommend the Pollo Borracho. The Margs are pretty big and tasty and priced well. The chips are always fresh and the salsa is good, but ask for the hotter stuff! YUM!

    (5)
  • Steve S.

Overpriced and less than average food. Portions were small as well for what we paid. Service was fine but does not make up for the rest. Am guessing this place won't be in business long.

This is a wonderful restaurant. I am the worlds pickiest eater so if I say it's good it is great!! I had the cheese enchilada and tostada (vegetarian). They were both great. The salsa is just the right mix of spices. The manager came by our table and answered all of our questions. The service is exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Nice menu selection, but very slow service and unimpressed with food quality and mediocre taste. They brought my daughter the wrong meal, then when they returned with her correct order the chicken was cold and raw. Literally raw. By the time they returned with a new and third plate, we had been there nearly 1 hour and 45 minutes. Not going there again.

2nd time trying this place. Stay away. Poor service and poor food quality. Dinner came out different then what ordered. Much better Mexican in the area. If I could rate a 0 I would.

  • Shelly B.

Happy hour menu is great. The food in general is average. Some items are fabulous like the seafood chimi and their steak burrito. But most everything else is ok. Their Cadillac margs are wonderful. Large drinks and worth the $10. We would go again, but its not our 1st pick.

Been here twice now and both times were very good. I absolutely love the green chile and will have to get a cup or bowl every time I dine here. Its not overly hot but it does have a great flavor and is loaded with pork. Service was very good and my iced tea was in a large glass and never fell below half full as out server was attentive. The free chips and salsa is very good and the neat thing is that they serve a small side of refried beans with it as well. Today I had the stacked enchiladas (don't recall the menu name). They were tasty and came with 3 different sauces. I saw a sign on the front door about a Sunday brunch buffet. I am looking forward to trying that out soon.

This is solid Mexican food. Great salsa, nice chips. We had fajitas - well done, lots of fresh grilled veggies. This is one of best Mexican restaurants in Highlands Ranch. Even better than Salsa Brava!

  • Ruth C.

So so food with so so service. Prices were high for what you get. It did take quite awhile for our order to be taken and it was a Tuesday, non-weekend night. I should have listened to others who felt the same way, but I figured it would be nice to at least check it out myself, at least once. I likely will not be going back unless a friend insists on it...and even then I likely would suggest somewhere else!

  • Travis D.

The service was poor. The margaritas were meh. The food was ok until it gave me stomach pain & made my wife violently ill; she ended up having to leave and drive herself home before I could even get the check. I spoke to the manager about this in an effort to prevent others from getting sick too. He was rude, very defensive, & told me I had no idea what I was talking about. I won't be going back. If you enjoy your health I suggest you avoid this establishment.

Had our second visit to this restaurant. After two visits I feel like I can honestly review this place. My first visit I had the fire roasted vegetables. The veges were roasted lightly and had little or no seasoning. It came with a dollar size pancake of rice and beans. Last night I had a shrimp dish that came with rice, beans and a creamy habanero sauce. I got about 7 small shrimp and the dollar size beans and rice. The salsa was ok. It was not out of this world. Their house margaritas are ok too. The service both times was very good. Nothing to complain about there. If I go back and probably will because it's a hot spot in HR, I will get the standard taco and enchilada. That may change my review of their food based off of that.

The most overpriced, bland mexican food I've had in Colorado - no exaggeration. Waitress reeked of cigarette smoke. We live just a few minutes away so we WERE excited about the possiblity of a good mexican place nearby. Not going back.

They treated me like family, I love the food and environment! Great place! I recommend trying the Taco's Abinil (spelling) they're yummy and you get a good portion too.

Our initial sampling of Margaritas, Flautas and Tamales was a positive experience. Very friendly & knowledgeable staff.

I have eaten here twice. The first time was a couple of years ago and it was good. The second time I went back, the food was bland, the meat tough, and I won't be going back. I did not even finish my burrito as the meat was not good. I suspect the quality has gone down unfortunately.

My wife and I are both Latin, I am from Mexico and My wife is from Central america. We both loved this place. It is clean and has a nice ambiance. The food is authentic with some modern twists. Our service was fast and very friendly. Our kids loved it as well. definitely going back.

Was in the neighborhood and wanted Mexican food for lunch. I ordered a steak burrito and was disappointed. There was very little steak and it was very "bready". The tortilla was thick and too big. Not very flavorful. I'm not coming back.

    (2)
  • Greg M.

Clean, nice staff. But food is meh. Good salsa but entrees were bland with no green or red chili to smoother chimichanga. Is that even legal? They charged extra for tomatoes at a Mexican restaurant - hmm. $33 for two entrees only water to drink.

    (2)
  • Jon G.

Very unpleasant visit: unfriendly staff, very mediocre food with little to no flavor. Super bland . I did not leave satisfied , or full for that matter (as I did not finish my food because it was truly not enjoyable.) Hate to leave reviews like this, but if places want to stay in business, they at least need to offer tasty and enjoyable food that leaves you craving it enough to come back. That is not the case with this place, in my opinion. Left absolutely no incentive for me to come back... :/

  • Luna C.

Amazing Food and Service!! The guacamole was made fresh right at our table it was so delicious and fun to watch. The margaritas were excellently made and a great price. I ordered the stuffed chiles pablano and it was the most amazing dish I have had yet! There green chili is delicious. I would highly reccomend this restaurant.

  • Jim H.

Brought the family to this place twice. First time was 'ok.' Second time we got out of the car and noticed an awful smell that must have been coming from a sewer backup/grease trap issue. Not sure if it was the restuarant's problem but never the less we will not return any time soon. Maybe sometime in the future.

  • Frank K.

Carlos Miguel's in Highlands Ranch rocks! They have affordable lunch specials that deliver great flavor and hearty protions. On this visit the Fajitas Chiquitas & Tilapia Yucatan were both delicious choices. The building's interior is clean, contemporary and sleek. Sevice was friendly and attentive. Veronica was very nice. The food was outstanding. Warm chrispy chips and warm bean dip served with fresh salsa yum. All around an excellent experience!

  • Robert S.

The salsa has a bad flavor profile. I have always been warned if a restaurant has bad Salsa then run. The enchiladas Suizas weren't much better. It seems whoever the person is making ingredient decisions doesn't have an acute sense of taste or smell. The price was a bit steep compared to other sit down Mexican restaurants. The positives were cleanliness, ambiance , and service. I would not go back until they refined their menu with flavors that work in practice not theory.

  • Mike A.

Don't waste your time because they will. Against my better judgment I've been to this place a few times. I wanted to like it, I really did. I didn't think it could be so awful, so I tried to have something positive to say, but I don't. I've never had anyone seat me because there was never anyone at the hostess stand. Ok, I cruise on back to the bar. I've never seen it busy but it isn't uncommon to wait twenty minutes for a beer. At the bar. Different bartenders and different wait staff and it never fails, terrible service. I didn't even know chips and salsa were served until my third time in. If the food was good I'd give two stars but it's not. Don't do what I did. Stay away.

  • George S.

Tried the seafood chimichanga and it was quite tasty and spicy. I would definitely try it again.

    (4)
  • Clint F.

Really really bad, I ordered a combination plate with a ground beef burrito and a shredded beef chimichanga. Both of the above listed items were terrible. The ground beef was just grayish mush that had no flavor at all. The shredded beef was devoid of all seasoning and had a very strange texture. Oh and did I forget to mention this place is expensive? The food quality is on par for a fast food restaurant, but dinner for two cost me over $40!!! Save your money and hit the local taco bell for a quarter of the price.

My husband and I go for the happy hour prices at the bar. We've been about five times now and after that last experience, we'll not go back again. We liked the ceviche and always order that. We once ordered their calamari because the waitress boasted that it was their signature dish. It was terrible and we never ordered it again. The last time we were there we ordered the ceviche and a couple of tacos to split. When we finished the tacos, I noticed that the piece of Romaine lettuce under the tacos was not only wilted, but looked like it came out of the trash. I would NEVER serve that to my family, let alone any guest. Talked to the manager and he argued with us that the lettuce absorbs grease and that makes the lettuce soggy. Excuse me? He was rude and tried to give me excuses that were ridiculous! Does he not think that I can judge lettuce? We are not going back. Hate the manager, service is slow and prices are too high for the meal you get. The place is always empty, hostess is never there, and I've only encountered one bartender who gave us good customer service. Don't go here!

  • Elizabeth R.

Both the service and the food have gone downhill so far since this place first opened. The staff is slow and smug, and the food is inconsistent and rarely good anymore. 3 Margaritas on County Line is a much better bet for consistently good Mexican food in Highlands Ranch, and their staff is always incredibly nice.

Warm chips, very tasty salsa & warm bean-dip, table-side guacamole.....we'll deserved 4 Stars.

  • Duane M.

Had a good experience while here with friends that love this place. Service was top notch even when our party did not all show at the same time. Beverages were never empty. I had the stuffed shrimp and loved it! It is somewhat close to the house, so I am sure we will go back.

Ate at this new(er) restaurant a couple of weeks ago when I was really craving Mexican food. It was not what I expected but the burrito (from lunch menu) that I ordered was really tasty! I'm not a big fan of rice in my burritos but the flavor of this one made it ok!! I also prefer refried beans to black beans, but again it was fine! The salsa was also really good and they served a small bowl of refried beans along with the salsa and chips. I'll be going back as the whole experience was worthwhile!

Very good , nice atmosphere , hand fried taco shells and good salsa. Also friendly wait staff Shawn was great. Went there a second time for dinner and was not good at all. Fajitas served with no sizzle , only warm

  • Darcey H.

Excellent service! We were new to this restaurant and the manager took very good care of us. The salsa is THE best I've ever tasted. There's a smokey flavor that I've not experienced before. It added that extra touch to great tasting cuisine. Give this place a try...you'll be happy you did.

  • John G.

Wow, this place is a well-kept secret. Very, very good food and equally as good of service. The bar is very nice and has a great selection of tequilas. We had dinner and drinks with no complaints about anything. Really a nice place to enjoy a dinner or just a drink and chips. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed.

    (4)
  • Steven T.

Avoid this place. The waitstaff is slow, so very slow. Ten minutes to get water which sat empty without a refill for the entire meal. The food is flavorless and very over priced for the way it tastes. The tortilla had more flavor than the green chile and "seasoned" shredded beef. Each plate came with rice and beans. However they came out looking similar to plastic on a display plate. They ended up being quite hard and crispy on the top. The place looks nice but could be considered loud to some. I'd recommend skipping this place and going somewhere else.

Not sure how this place stays open. We walked in and found all the servers sitting at a table chatting. After someone let them know they had people waiting, someone came to seat us. After that, we got to wait ten minutes before anyone came over to help us. We ordered drinks, then waited another ten minutes. We finally just got up and left. This place is a joke.

They serve free chips with salsa and offer margaritas on their menu; that is the only reason I gave one star. I called the restaurant last night to see if they were on a wait and the girl who answered the phone didn't even know how to handle that very simple question. Upon arriving, the same girl didn't know how to seat us. We requested a booth and got sat at a 4-top table in the bar! The seating would have been acceptable however our server was one of the worst I have ever had. It took him over 5 minutes to greet us and then another 10 just to get our waters. We then ordered a pitcher of margaritas, simple enough right? I guess not, it took another 10 minutes to arrive! So about a half hour into our meal all we had were drinks. He then left our table without returning for another 10 minutes - we hadn't even ordered dinner yet! After flagging him over we ordered our meal. Suprise suprise, we didn't get our food until we were done drinking our pitcher! Yeah that's right, two people were able to finish a pitcher of margaritas before our dinner ever arrived. Well I guess I could have waited longer because what was served to me was awful! I then had to have them take it off our bill (after my husband was done eating because they never came by to check on us). The manager conintued to tell me that "we all have different tastes". Needless to say, I will never go back to this "Mexican" restaurant. It gives the rest of the Mexican restaurants in the south Denver area a bad name.

What a waste of restaurant space in Highlands Ranch. This place is awful! A basic Margarita costs $7.50 on a Sunday afternoon. We watched server after server - pass us by w/o an offer to serve us. Had to wave someone down to get service. Food was blah and not seasoned at all. No sour cream on the taco - looks like they consider sour cream a side - and charge $1.75 for it. Outrageous! No lunch menu on weekends, only Mon - Fri. this means you pay $13.95 for a combo platter - way over-priced. Save your money and go elsewhere.

We've been here twice. The first time we sat in the bar and had good food and service. We were excited to go back for the second time. When we got there the hostess greeted us and told us it would be about 5 minutes, they were really busy. No problem. After 5 minutes she took us to our table. As we entered the dining area there was hardly anyone there. A few people in the booths and no one at the tables. Seemed a little suspect. As we sat down a customer came up to the waiter to give him his credit card because he was tired of waiting. The other table was complaining as well. We heard the waiter tell them that the short order cook was out. We ordered our drinks and I asked for a margarita and water. Got my margarita but no water. After 2 more requests I got my order. Yippee!! The food. Oye. They got my sons order wrong. Twice. He wanted tacos with meat and cheese only and was brought one with lettuce and tomato and the second with lettuce. I got the chimi with sauce, it came out with no sauce, dry with a lump of cheese on top. We were supposed to get refried beans with our meals and I got a bowl of black beans and my husband got pinto beans. Totally random. We ate our food, at this point we just wanted to leave.

This was a pleasant surprise. A bright, friendly and lively atmosphere. Rather contemporary feeling. My first surprise was the wine list- quite extensive really and one of the few restaurants in the Denver area to offer a Tempranillo. My second surprise was the appetizer menu. This restaurant actually offers Ceviche. This was also large enough for two people to share. We also had the Macho Nacho appetizer- definitely large enough for 2-4 people and very good. Lots of shedded pork in ours. My husband ordered a taco/ enchilada combination. Very good. We were too full to order dessert, so we just had coffee. Next time we will come a little hungrier and order the f ried ice cream. Can't wait! The service by the way was very good. We were greeted both on the way in and on the way out. Our server Ivan was friendly, helpful and attentive. A great experience all the way around

I stopped in for lunch 3 weeks after they opened. I was the only person in the bar area except for the manager and the bartender. The food was mediocre at best, the service was a 3 out of 5. The prices were way to expensive for the food.

Im not sure where the people who dont like this place went but my experience was completely different. This is by far the best mexican food in the Highlands Ranch area or South Metro for that matter. I went for lunch one day while my car was getting fixed next door. I had the lunch special Big Bertha Burrito and it was so good, I took my Girlfriend there then next day so she could try it. We both agreed the food is fantastic. The drink selection is a little limited but with Negra Modelo on tap and her favorite wine (Concha Y Toro) we BOTH agreed it was the best mexican food in the area.

Great food and drink specials - Carlos Miguel's in Highland Ranch does a great job at filling the need for a good Mexican restaurant (there are other, but this one seems to be the best). The menu is pretty complete as Mexican places go (which is just about a book). I usually get the enchiladas and am never disappointed. The only plate that has not really impressed me have been the chimichangas. If you hit them during happy hour, you can usually get some pretty good deals. All that said, I have noticed that they seem to be a bit under staffed during the weekends --- but your food still comes out pretty quick.

Oh man. Why? I just don't understand how restaurants survive with horrible service. Pros: -Sat immediately at 6:50 PM on a Friday. -Patio seating. -Chips, salsa, & bean dip brought to table almost immediately and tasty. -The server who finally attended to us was trying and seemed nice. -Melon mojito surprisingly yummy. -They comped our drinks. Cons: -20 minutes and no one acknowledged us except for the chips, salsa, & bean dip. -Friend went inside to flag down a server. Server said we weren't in her area, but she'd be happy to serve us. -Had to then ask for drink menu and water. -Shortly after, bartender showed up to take our order (guess we were in her section). We informed we had just ordered and she brought us flatware, plates, and napkins. -Food was ok, but not special, and overpriced. We got chips & queso and then shared carnitas. -Drinks still hadn't arrived by time we were almost done eating. We informed server and canceled them. We were brought our drinks shortly thereafter. -Friend's drink was delivered on the rocks (many, many rocks) when ordered chilled. -We saw the bartender 2 more times during our stay (not at our table). If the patio is her section, they need to make some changes. Yet another disappointment trying to find a good Mexican restaurant close to home.

I've seen this chain around and have wanted to try for some time. Stopped by for lunch. Was not busy, was not empty. With a lot of dining options around, I thought nothing of the crowd. The atmosphere and cleanliness were exceptional. The decor was impressive compared to the inexpensive faire. Waitstaff was adequate but not exceptional, but then again, I'm not very demanding. Chips and salsa are served with a side of beans. Salsa was ok. A giant tomato wallowed in the small bowl of salsa pushing out most of anything else. Hard to believe the waitstaff didn't notice that when it was served, but hey. I ordered the 2 ground beef taco special from the lunch menu. Oi. Not good. Puddles of grease on the plate under 2 stale taco shells was not very appealing. This was frustrating as the toppings looked very appetizing. Little effort in the beans and rice. I did not clean my plate. :-( . As I left, the waitress looked as if to apologize for the experience, but probably has grown tired of the hassle of vocalizing her embarrassment for the establishment to which she is employed.

Go during Happy Hour for some great deals. Ceviche is delicious and good for two people to share. The food is fresh and tasty. Service is a little bit slow but worth the wait.

First time visit from a coupon mailing. Chips and salsa with bean dip is a good start as you seat down. Ordered appetizer plates of shrimp quesadilla and calamari. Nice atmosphere of the dining area plus great service. The food tastes fresh and plentiful.

Poor service. It was our first time there. The waiter was very matter of fact and not friendly. Food was good but over priced although the prices would not bother me if the server made us feel comfortable. We just moved to HR and will not return here. Tough to find places who care these days. Hire people who care.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
